The project

The Danube is the European river par exellence.

On her 2850 km long race she strides across the nuclear rooms means of middle and southest of Europe. There are 10 direct states at the river since the world political face vault 1990. But the region which is as much geographically as historically and culturally characterized of the Danube is far bigger and surrounds numerous countries and peoples of different languages, religions and mentalities.

The Danube is the only one important European river, which flows in west east direction. She is symbol of the European union, bridge between east and the west. The Donaulauf 2002 starts in Tulcea at the Donaudelta (river kilometre 70) on May 24th, 2002, follows the race of the Danube and ends on July 5th, 2002 in Ulm (river kilometre 2588) -- punctual at the beginning of the 3rd's international Donaufestes (July 5th to 14th).

Donaulauf 2002 is a project, which wans to be set by three main signs

Sportingly Bernd Hummel will go through about more than 60 marathons of Tulcea to Ulm within 43 days and it is our finish to be accompanied by as many athletes and race friends from respective towns and countries as possible on stretches of road at this.

Politically this race shall document the important forward roll of the double city of Ulm/Neu Ulm at the approach of the European Danube Cities and serve this process of getting closer mutually in the Europe growing together.

Humanitarianly the Donaulauf 2002 is also a collection campaign. During the race the members will collect money and donations for charitable facilities in different countries, for example the "Aktion 100.000" of the SÜDWEST PRESSE in Ulm. Everybody can go along with that: One can take a godparenthood for a day stage and support these facilities so for 100 euros (look at Godparenthood or Patenschaft).
